Where To Find Part Time Remote Work

Don’t let my silly face distract you from reading more about remote work!

In November of last year, I was laid off from my full time job. It shocked me even though layoffs were happening all throughout 2023 and 2024.

Anyone who is job hunting right now knows that the job market is beyond chaotic. I’ve only gotten one interview after consistently sending out applications for 5 months. Yikes!

The silver lining is if you want to work remote there are more opportunities to get part time, contract work to help pay the bills while job searching.

Here are some places and resources where I’ve found part time, remote work in 2024.

Freelancing

I’ve mostly stayed away from freelancing websites like Upwork because of the horror stories. So many horror stories!

But I’m willing to give it a try. I’ve had other designer friends who’ve used it as a side hustle along with their full time job so I know it can be done!

After watching a helpful video or two and reading some posts in web design groups, I feel more prepared to avoid the red flag clients and see if the platform works for me.

Freelancing takes a while to build up on a platform like Upwork so I’m not relying on this a main source of making money just yet.

Trying to get clients to take a chance on you when you don’t have a rating yet? It’s rough. If you have a good client base or an expansive network freelancing can definitely work for you.

Remotasks

There are many remote, contract roles and opportunities to be found online but the only one that didn’t melt my brain was Remotasks. To qualify you’ll need to take their training and an exam to learn how to rate AI responses.

Reviews are mixed online but I’ve found the experience working and creating AI prompts is actually a fun, creative activity. Once you get the hang of it with all the restrictions and requirements it’s so validating when you create a great prompt to submit!

If training AI and being a prompt engineer sounds interesting or better than other jobs in your area definitely check out Remotasks. Their current pay rate is $15 an hour depending on the project with minimum working hours from 10 to 20 per week.

Remotasks is currently my favorite since they have consistent work for me and have paid out the most. Another plus is they pay out weekly on Paypal so the faster you start the faster you can make money.

Tester Work

Most of us have run into bugs or errors on websites or apps. Another remote work option for people who are tech savvy is Tester Work. This involves creating bug reports for software or apps.

It might sound intimidating at first but I’m not a software engineer or coder and I learned how to do it. The key is studying the guidelines and helpful articles on Tester Work and online so you can pass the test.

You can only take it twice so knowing the material is important. I actually failed my first time because I didn’t take it seriously. There’s a little bit of jargon but there are plenty of online resources to help you.

Payout rates vary by the project and how many bugs you find. The payouts from the last two tests I participated in was $30 per test and I completed them in less than an hour. You get invitations to participate in tests in your email depending on what devices you own.

Studies

There are tons of sites where you can do surveys or studies but make sure to do some digging so you don’t waste your time or get scammed. Lots of sites only want to pay you a few dollars or less so make sure you’re not wasting your valuable time on the low paying ones.

One site I recently signed up is Wynter. This was recommended on my LinkedIn and is specifically for market research for marketers that match your job or professional career. Three sites that I’ve seen recommended over and over on different websites and have tried myself are Connect Cloud Research, Respondent.io and User Interviews.

For full transparency, I’ve only earned money on Connect and Wynter so far because the other sites have larger payouts and you have to wait to see if the researchers choose you after applying. The links for the 2 study platforms are my affiliate links so if you sign up I get a little bonus payout.

Where can I find part time remote work?

If you’re totally clueless about where to start try out the companies in this post first. Then head on over to Reddit for even more comprehensive lists in subreddits like beermoney, remotejobs and remotework.

Just search for working online, part time remote work, contract remote work and other similar searches. A lot of these places I would have never known about if I hadn’t looked for them or seen people talking about them on Reddit and TikTok.

A disclaimer for this type of work:

Scammers know that lots of people are trying to make extra money and work from home so if something seems to good to be true like, $35 per hour for data entry or other entry level jobs, then it probably is. When I feel unsure, I make sure to search the company name followed by scam.

[company name] scam or [company name] reddit

Almost every time if something is fishy about a company someone has ranted about it on Reddit at least once. This will also save you hours of your life from applying, going through a lengthy application process and taking tests only to get nothing in return or worse.

I hope this resource was helpful to you and good luck to all the job seekers out there!
